***CANCELLED*** Oconomowoc Fall Folk Dance Camp Oct 6-8, 2023

There weren't enough sign-ups by the deadline to meet the attendance requirement, so there won't be an Oconomowoc camp this year. Hopefully next year.

Fri Oct 16 Special Night Celebrating Lake Geneva + Oconomowoc Folk Dance Camps

Join us at our usual 8pm CDT Friday night virtual Zoom Argonne Folk Dance session on October 16, 2020, when we will have a program entirely made up of dances that were taught at the regional folk dance camps that were held at Lake Geneva and more recently Oconomowoc, Wisconsin (hopefully to resume in person next year).  It will be an online evening of all dancing, not teaching.

If you have fond memories of a dance that was taught at camp (or if there's one that you wish you had a fond memory of... 😊), send us e-mail to add it to the request list, or let us know verbally or in the Zoom chat on Friday.  If you're not already receiving the weekly e-mail reminder with the Zoom meeting info, send us e-mail to request that you be added to the e-mail list.  Our e-mail address is: lindaandjay@comcast.net

Here are links to video clips of dances that were taught at Oconomowoc in recent years:

Oconomowoc video clips 2006-2017 on youtube

The first few years of the blog, I uploaded the videos (and photo slideshows in some cases) to a free account on photobucket.com, which provided the HTML "embed" code to include them in the blog. But now photobucket has changed things and made stuff unavailable for "third party hosting" as this is called, unless you upgrade to a premium (paid) membership.  So, I finally got around to uploading all the years of Oconomowoc video clips that I have to youtube, making a playlist for each year (and also updated the early blog posts with the broken photobucket links to embed the youtube playlists instead.)

I made the youtube playlists "unlisted", which means you can see them if you have the link, but they won't show up in a youtube search.  Below are all the youtube playlist links, including 2006, which was before the blog even started:

post-Oconomowoc web surfing

Having spent the first half of my day struggling to get the video clips from Oconomowoc up on the blog, I decided to fritter away the second half of the day web surfing for videos, music, and info about the dances, now I'll share the links so you can fritter away some of your time, too:

The music for Menim Balam is also known as "Menim Balam Kime Neyler " or more frequently "Dut ağacı boyunca", and there are many versions of it:

I couldn't find much about Shumarsko, but while I was looking, I found a nice video of Cigansko Horo:
And I couldn't find the exact version of Popcorn that Daniel showed us at the after-party, but there are similar ones, like this:
And some less similar, including an Irish Step Dance version:

Oconomowoc 2016 video clips - YouTube playlist

Sorry this post is so delayed -- I tried to upload the videos to blog posts as I've done in the past, but blogger wasn't cooperating.  I tried 4 different browsers, two different computers with 2 different operating systems, two different video formats, but nothing worked -- it would upload successfully, but the "Processing video" step never finished, it just disappeared leaving only a broken link.  Anyway, after googling to see if I could find a solution, I finally found that the easiest thing would be to create a YouTube channel, put all the video clips in a playlist, and embed that in a blog post.  Hopefully this will work, probably better than the old ways, anyway.  I made the videos and the playlist "Unlisted", which means you can see them if you have the link, but they won't show up when searching YouTube.  Sorry for boring you with the details, but after several hours of wrestling with it, I just had to complain a little :-)
