Fermilab - Cross-Step waltz May 2, Jaap Leegwater May 29

Received from Mady:

Subject: Cross-step waltz workshops this Friday and Saturday; Bulgarian workshop with Jaap Leegwater at Fermilab May 29, and other folk dance news.
Date: Wednesday, April 30, 2008 6:11:45 PM
Hi and Happy May!

We'll be celebrating spring with lots of dance.

This weekend are the long-awaited workshops in Cross Step Waltz taught by multi-talented dancer from Dayton, Jeanette Watts, with the able help of her vintage dancer husband, Mike Watts. We hope you can join us either at Fermilab's Barn on Friday, May 2, or at the Harvard Congregational Church, 1045 S. Kenilworth Ave., Oak Park on Saturday, May 3 (or come to both!!). Both workshops run from 7 to 10:30 p.m. You don't have to have waltz experience, or come with a partner. Suggested donation for Fermilab is $5 and for Oak Park is $10.

You can find the flyer online at http://www.fnal.gov/orgs/folkdance/CrossStep.pdf

and can contact me with any further questions about it.

International Folk Dancing continues every Thursday through May, culminating in a workshop Thursday, May 29, 7:30 p.m. at the Barn with internationally known Bulgarian dance teacher Jaap Leegwater, just in from the Netherlands for June Camp (This folk dance weekend at Beloit College begins the next day, and also features Lee Otterholt, see http://junecamp2008.googlepages.com/ for more info). Mark your calendar and please plan to join us for this only workshop outside of the Camp that Jaap is giving in the Midwest on this tour.

Thursday, May 15, international folk dancing will take place in the Auditorium, just for that date. We'll move there to get away from the heat probably beginning June 12. Stay tuned and please make sure I have your current email address to keep informed.

Back to this weekend: there's also the usual "first" Sunday meeting of Fermilab English country dancing, which will take place this Sunday, May 4, at the Barn, from 1 p.m.to 4:45 p.m. No potluck this time. We are hoping to have our next English dance over Memorial Day weekend and switch at that point to a "last Sunday" schedule for the summer months.

Hope to see you soon!

More for singing lovers: "Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares", a Grammy

dissolve the separation between East and West, of young and old, of pop
music and classical tunes. Milwaukee (5/16), Minneapolis (5/17), Chicago

Fermilab upcoming dance events

Received from Mady:

From: "Mady Newfield"
To:"Mady Newfield"
Subject: Fermilab International Folk Dancing in the Auditorium this week plus upcoming events
Date: Wednesday, April 02, 2008 11:22:21 AM

Hi,

Just for this Thursday, April 3, Fermilab International Folk Dancing will be meeting in Ramsey Auditorium at Wilson Hall (Fermilab's high rise) instead of at the Barn. We'll be back to the Barn next week.

Looking ahead to other events of possible interest, this Saturday, April 5, there will be both an afternoon of English country dancing (2 p.m.) and an evening of Scottish country dancing (the RSCDS Chicago Branch Spring Dance, at 7 p.m.) at Fermilab's Barn, with a potluck supper in between.

Next weekend, April 11 -12, holds a visit by Zlatne Uste at Ethnic Dance Chicago's Spring Fling on Friday evening, and dancing in Millenium Park on Saturday (check it out at www.ethnicdance.net) OR a contra dance workshop with the band Nightingale and George Marshall calling at the University of Chicago (check it out at http://fac.uchicago.edu/danceweekend.html)

And save the first weekend in May: our Fermilab groups in conjunction with Tom Senior's Evanston English country dance group are sponsoring two workshops in Cross-Step Waltz, a very accessible and fun "vernacular" vintage waltz, taught by Jeanette Watts of Dayton, Ohio. One will be 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 2, at Fermilab's Barn, and the other at 7:30 p.m,. Saturday, May 3, at the Harvard Congregational Church, 2045 S. Kenilworth Av. in Oak Park. For more information or a copy of the flyer go to http://www.fnal.gov/orgs/folkdance/

Hope to see you soon!
