EDC Sock Hop II Sat Feb 27, 2016

http://www.ethnicdance.net/downloads/edc-sock-hop.pdf

EDC Saturday Nite Sock Hop II - Rock 'N Roll Dancing, Swing Dancing, Line Dancing @ the SPACE Center

Let Us Know You’re Coming – RSVP to: sockhop@ethnicdance.net

What’s a Sock Hop? – Why should I go?

• A sock hop or sox hop, often also called a record hop or just a hop, is an informal sponsored dance event for us “post-teenagers” that will feature popular music and dances of many generations.

• Original sock hops were commonly held at high schools and other educational institutions, often in the school gym or cafeteria. The term “sock hop” came about because dancers were required to remove their hard-soled shoes to protect the varnished floor of the gymnasium. In subsequent decades, with the widespread popularity of sneakers and other types of indoor shoes, the practice of removing shoes was dropped. But the term stuck and came to be applied more generally to any informal dance for teenagers.

• You won’t be required to remove your shoes at this dance!

• You’ll enjoy tunes form the past, present and future as your friendly disc jockey, “DJ-LUAP” will spin music for dancing from various eras and from sources that include computer, smart phone, tape and even vinyl records.

• “DJ-LUAP” will also be there to help you recall some of the line dances, individual dances, partner dances, rock ‘n’ roll dances, swing dances, and mixers that you may have had fun doing long ago, or not so long ago!

(Located on the South Side of Peterson Ave (6000N), just west of Kimball Ave (3400W),
between Bernard Ave (3432W) & St Louis Ave (3500W) in Chicago)
