Le Grande Bal de l'Europe

Xfinity, our cable provider, occasionally offers a few days of free streaming of various premium channels.  This week it includes a French streaming service, TV5 Monde.  Scanning the offerings, a 2018 film called Le Grand Bal caught my attention, and I looked around for more info about the event that it documents, Le Grand Bal de l'Europe, https://www.gennetines.org/en/

Looks like the 2023 Grand Bal is going on right now.  Here are a few short videos from  previous years.  In the first one, just after the 8 min timestamp, you may recognize a short clip of "L'homme Que Marche".  If you search youtube for "Le Grand Bal de l'Europe", you can find a lot more clips, if you're interested.

L'homme Qui Marche

There's a blog called "Folk Dance Musings"  that posts information about international folk dances.  A recent post was about "L'homme Qui Marche" from which I learned that the music is by the French bal folk group "Au gré des Vents", on an album called "Le Colporteur". I found the links by googling the band/album information in the blog.  You can stream the music from the album link, there are a lot of nice tracks, with the associated dance type given, in addition to L'Homme Qui Marche, and it appears that the music is available for download because the CD is no longer available or sale.   http://www.carnetdebal.org/albums/le-colporteur/15-album-le-colporteur-l-homme-qui-marche.mp3

June Camp, Beloit College, June 3-6, features Macedonian and French dance teachers

Received from Mady :

Greetings,

As you watch the snow that you’re likely experiencing, it’s a good time to think about different weather and good times. Mark your calendars now for June Camp, one of the Midwest’s most fun dance workshop weekends: Thursday through Sunday, June 3 to 6, 2010.  And you can look forward to our featured dance teachers: Kete Ilievski, teaching dances of Macedonia, and Marilyn (Wathen) Smith, teaching dances of France.

It will be an exciting weekend, again at comfortable Beloit College with its air-conditioned dorms and wonderful food. We’re starting early again, to give one more evening of request parties, and more time for Dance Exchange workshop and possibly review by our featured teachers. There will be a live music dance party Saturday evening, following our classic Happy Hour. We intend to have music jamming sessions, the traditional Saturday ice cream social, and late-night dancing.

And we hope to keep the prices the same as last year, with scholarship help available for those who need it.

The website is at http://sites.google.com/site/junecampifd/ .  Registration fliers will be out by mid-March and will be downloadable there, or can be mailed to you if you contact us at junecampifd@gmail.com,
