Which says, in part:
The Associated Press Published: November 2, 2007
MOSCOW: Igor Moiseyev, who transformed folk dance into a legitimate genre of choreographic art that won worldwide acclaim, died Friday in Moscow. He was 101...Moiseyev, called the king of folk dance, attracted the West to Russian culture at a time of deep political hostility and won standing ovations around the world.
And, on the subject of dance and centenarians, here's a story about the oldest alumnus of Jay's alma mater, RPI, which says, again in part:
Oldest RPI alumnus is dead at age 105
Albany native Isadore "Izzy" Warshaw danced with college president...
If it wasn't for that pastime, he may have reached 106.
Warshaw was dancing to a klezmer band that played Tuesday nights at his senior living community when he fell and broke his hip. That was Aug. 7.
The doctor offered him a choice.
He could risk surgery or leave it alone. He chose surgery. He made it through the operation, but his heart gave out afterward.
"It's like a book," Jeff Schanz, RPI's director of alumni relations, said of the dance-floor ending. "It's a remarkable end to a great life."
