We plan to meet as usual for dancing in Downers Grove all Fridays in December, and Friday Jan 3, in addition to meeting for our annual New Years Day party on Wednesday Jan 1, 2020.

The Fermilab group will have their holiday folk dance party on Thursday, Dec. 19, (as usual in Kuhn Barn, 7:30 p.m.) and cancel folk dancing on Thursday, Dec. 26, because too many people will be out of town. They'll resume dancing right away in the new year, on Thursday, January 2.

Dit's group in Skokie will have their holiday folk dance party on Wednesday Dec 18

Sad news: Marge Mayer

We were very sorry to hear from Joe that Marge Mayer had passed away Aug 25, 2017, at age 96.  Marge was a longtime Argonne folk dancer.  We had been thinking of Marge just recently when doing New York, New York, which was her favorite dance.

Sad news: Aldona Baranauskas

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Aldona Baranauskas yesterday.  Aldona danced at Argonne for many years.  Roo forwarded the information from Aldona's daughter Marija.  Marija says that there will not be any service, since Aldona specifically didn't want one.  She hopes everyone just takes a moment to remember her joy of dance and maybe something nice about her.  I recall that she really liked to do T'Filati, and Shoofni.   But if Hole In The Wall came on, or if the music was playing too loudly, she would leave immediately.  She used to bring Kugelis (Lithuanian potato pudding) to our pot lucks, always delicious.  Our sympathy to Marija and the rest of her family.

June Folk Dance Camp May 16-19 NIU Dekalb

...registration is open for "June Camp", ... at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. It will be held this year, exceptionally, in May, from the evening of Thursday, May 16, through Sunday noon, May 19. Featured teachers are the entertaining duo Sonia Dion and Cristian Florescu, and there are live music dance parties every evening. There are various registration categories possible, including options for those in the area who wish to drive in but stay at home. However, because of our early dates, the registration late fee date is already coming up soon, April 25, and all overnight and meal registration closes May 6. (You can only come for workshop or party only registration after that date.) Univ of Chicago Folk Festival Feb 15-16, 2019

The University of Chicago Folk Festival this year is Fri-Sat Feb 15-16, 2019.

Concerts are 8pm Friday and 7:30pm Saturday, at Mandel Hall, 1131 E 57th St, Chicago.

Workshops are during the day Saturday, at Ida Noyes Hall, 1212 E 59th St, Chicago.

The ufcfolk.org page doesn't have the schedules yet, but Roo pointed me to this facebook link:  https://m.facebook.com/UCFolkFest/ , which shows these planned dance workshops:

• Scandinavian Dance, Saturday, 10:30-12:00, Cloister Club
• Cajun Dance, Saturday, 1:00-2:30, Cloister Club, with a lesson from 12:30-1
• Barn Dance, Saturday, 3:00-5:00, Cloister Club
• Morris Dancing with Pullman Morris and Sword, Saturday, 11:30 - 12:30, Third Floor Theater
• Waltzes and English Country Dances, Saturday, 12:30-1:30, 3rd Floor Theater

There are also music workshops, including Chicago Recorder Society on Saturday, 11:00-12:00, Library (1st Floor)
