May 30 - no Argonne dancing in Downers Grove

Many of us (including Jay & me) will be going to June camp May 30, so we're cancelling dancing in Downers Grove that Friday.

As far as we know now, we should be dancing Fridays for the rest of the summer. We'll send e-mail as well as posting here if/when other cancellations come up.

Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares May 18 + other upcoming events

Received from John:

Subject: Chicago: special discount tickets for Le Mystere des Voix
Bulgares, May 18; other upcoming events
Date: Mon, 12 May 2008 12:20:49 -0700 (PDT)
From: balkanske igre @yahoo.com

Dear Friends,
The world-renowned, Grammy-winning women's choir, Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares is on tour in the U.S. and will be performing in Chicago for one concert only:
Sunday, May 18, 4pm
St Clement's Church
642 W Deming Pl (1 block west of Clark, between Fullerton & Diversey)
Chicago, IL

Their music has been described simply as the most beautiful choral music in the world. Indeed, if you have like Goran Bregovic's Wedding and Funeral Orchestra's amazing female vocalists, e.g. "Cajesukarije-Cocek", then you know exactly what I mean as Le Mystere's choir (a/k/a Women's Choir of Radio-Television Sofia) sings
in exactly this style and is in fact the standard by which all such groups are judged. They are a delight with clear, powerful yet nuanced voices sung in a capella style with no electric guitars, drum machines, or circus gimmicks...just pure music.

The normal price for the concert is $40 at the door, $35 in advance, but as unpaid volunteers helping the producers of this concert, we have arranged for a limited block of specially discounted tickets for our friends, associates, and enthusiasts of Balkan music for $25. To make a reservation for these tickets or get them directly from us while the limited supply
lasts, please contact

You may also reserve tickets by writing to balkanse_igre@yahoo.com

Note that the newspaper ads in the major media and in the Bulgarian language newspapers may still refer to the full price, but you can take advantage of this special, limited time discounted offer from us. Please forward to your friends, family, and anyone else potentially interested in this concert. Offer good while supply lasts, so do not delay.

Also., we are planning to invite the choir for dinner at a Bulgarian restaurant. If you are interested in joining us, please advise so that we may include you in the reservation. We are suggesting a small donation to help pay for the choir's dinner.

Here is a summary of upcoming Balkan music and dance events in the Chicago area:
